The Great CA ShakeOut - October 20, 2011 at 10:20am

On October 20, 2011, San Francisco Community Agencies Responding to Disasters (SF CARD), along with community partners from San Francisco Department of Emergency Management (SF DEM) and the American Red Cross Bay Area delivered a disaster response exercise to nonprofit and faith-based organizations to practice organizational response and measure organizational resiliency. The exercise also gave participating organizations the opportunity to practice their personalized disaster recovery plans and utilize the Bay Area Coordinated Assistance Network, which assists nonprofits to coordinate information and resources to meet the needs of disaster survivors. The exercise took place at the SF DEM Emergency Operations Center in San Francisco, and Citizen Voice was proud to have been invited to address the assembled group about the SAFELY OUT™ Project and our plans for growth in the San Francisco Bay Area. In addition to Citizen Voice President and Co-Founder Gary Dietrich, other notable speakers at this event included Mike Dayton, the acting Secretary of the California Emergency Management, Rob Dudgeon, the Deputy Director at SF DEM, and Russ Paulsen, the Director of Preparedness at the American Red Cross Headquarters Office in Washington, D.C.

Inaugural 3RIMS3DAYS trek a rock solid success!

It was at times grueling, often exhilarating, and in the end deeply satisfying, as Citizen Voice (CV) in partnership with our outstanding project partner Bayside Adventure Sports (BAS) pulled off a highly successful inaugural "3RIMS3DAYS: Trek to Protect a National Treasure" in Yosemite. Trekkers - including CV president Gary Dietrich - summited Half Dome just after sunrise on day one (having started this first trek day at 1 a.m.), stood atop North Dome on day two (following two bear encounters and a river crossing), and made the big push to finish atop Glacier Point (celebrating with lots of photos and ice cream!) on the final day of the trek. An outstanding accomplishment to be sure -- 40+ miles, over 14,000 feet of elevation gain...in three days. Proceeds from the trek will go to The Yosemite Conservancy to help protect this national treasure (that is vulnerable to negative effects from budget cutting being felt in many national, state and local parks in these difficult economic times), BAS's projects to involve youth in valuable outdoor experiences, and CV's efforts to develop strategically selected projects that will help protect key components of our vulnerable created world. Check out some trek pictures here, and mark your calendars for June of 2012 when 3RIMS3DAYS will begin to grow in both size and impact from this successful pilot project in 2011 to become a unique, highly visible, widely respected effort involving event sponsors and participants state and nationwide.
