THE CHALLENGE

The ChallengeGovernment at its historic best is by the people for the people, with a time-honored responsibility to protect the most vulnerable.  Unfortunately, currently it is viewed instead by much of the public as a game played by those simply promoting their own self-interests.

The result is a political structure in which polls reveal high levels of citizen distrust.  Bitter partisan conflicts between political parties further deepen societal divisions.  Negative perceptions and voices often seem to prevail.

The problem when it comes to citizen involvement is that disillusionment and discouragement grow.  Those who want to help often don’t know how.  For others, busyness limits their search for effective involvement.  And for yet others, cynicism hardens them to the need for involvement or creates a belief they can’t make a significant impact.

The ChallengeThe reality is that those without a strong voice – the most vulnerable among and around us – are the ones that suffer most.  Unless others act courageously on their behalf, the weak or silent are often left in difficult if not dire circumstances.

It's time to throw destructive divisiveness aside in favor of collective honor and integrity.  Most agree it should be that way, but don’t know how to get there.  The few that have spoken of a return to shared historic values have often found the going lonely and isolating in the modern political rampage.  It is time for new, yet timeless, voices to emerge - honorable, wise, compassionate, courageous citizen voices.
